Below are a list of my top recommendations for probably the most important item in your make up bag...Foundation.
Before we get started, a few general tips on foundation.
Firstly please, please, please resist the urge to choose a foundation a shade (or more!) darker than your natural skin tone. This will not make you look like a sun kissed victoria's secret model. It will make you look like you are wearing makeup, orange makeup, that sits overtly on your skin. Foundation looks best when it blends perfectly with you natural skin tone. You can use blush and bronzer later to create color and warmth to the skin. I will have a blog post on this shortly.
Secondly, budget permitting, this is the place to really invest in a product. It will sit directly on your skin for the majority of the day and as your skin is your largest organ you need to protect and care for it.
And finally, decide what look you want from your foundation. Do you want a glowey, dewy finish or more of a flawless full coverage look? Do you prefer a powder matt. or a workable mouse? Decide on the finish you desire before venturing out to buy.
Estee Lauder Double Wear Light.
This is a long lasting, medium to full coverage foundation. If like me, you like your foundation to stay on your skin for over 5 -8 hours a day with no touch ups, this product holds true. If you have very dry skin, or like a dewy finish this product isn't for you. The shade choice is pretty crappy but most Irish people will range between shade numbers 2 -3.
Chanel Vitalumiere
A light weight, dewy finish foundation that makes tired skin glow. This product is amazing to make your skin look alive and replenished. Perfect if you have dryer skin or like a natural glowy finish. For oily or combination skins this will look great for about an hour and then slide off. However if you are popping out for a short outing and want a super clean polished look, this product delivers.
YSL touche eclat foundation
New to market, this little gem is causing quite the stir, similar to Chanel Vitalumiere this is a glowy dewy finish with a little more lasting power, however this still will not bring you from desk to dinner. Touch ups required after 4+ hours.
Makeup forever HD foundation
This is a close up friendly, perfecting foundation. Used to airbrush the skin to create a flawless finish this comes close to first class. The coverage will last you throughout the day whilst still not creating a cakey finish. Good for those of you who want a medium to full coverage finish.
Benefit, You Rebel foundation
Ok, so this isn't exactly a foundation, more of a tinted moisturizer but I had to list as I have had this in my kit for years at this stage. For all you clear skinned beauties, or the occasional ok days for the rest of us this is a prefect in between for a day when you don't feel like caking on a full foundation and want a little pick me up. This makes you look like you have had ten hours sleep and gallons of water, a workable fool proof liquid.
